Makeup can be so intimating at first, mostly because there is just so much of it! From finding your correct ‘shade’ to choosing between 20 different ways to fill in your eyebrows…where do you begin?
If you’re just starting out, or a beauty-avid, this is the 5 products you MUST HAVE!
1) Concealer
If you’re anything like me, I don’t always feel the need for a full coverage heavy foundation that covers absolutely everything! For me, promoting normal imperfections to my children is so important, life isn’t perfect, so why should we expect our faces to be spotless?! Whether its freckles, wrinkles, or beauty marks – they all make up your character – and that you should be proud of! This is why I’ve opted for concealer, instead of foundation as one of my six makeup must-haves.
I mostly use this product under my eyes; we all know what its like being a Mom and one thing we don’t get a lot of is sleep! I find myself reaching for concealer all the time, simply because it takes hardly any effort to apply!
I usually use my fingertips as I find that this is the most gentle technique, since this area is so sensitive. The warmth of your hands will also help to smooth the product.
For me, finding the right ‘shade’ is crucial here, as anything too light can look unnatural and harsh, whilst anything too dark can contradict what you’re trying to do in the first place – make yourself look more awake!
This business, ‘FACE the VIBES‘, allows you choose between 10 shades OR send an image of yourself to create perfect match! Rich in antioxidants, this specific concealer includes the likes of almond oil and rosehip – Could it get much better?! You can find this Natural Concealer here.
2) Highlight
I love the look of a fresh, dewy face as I always find it makes me look more youthful and fresh. This look is achieved with highlight, a light reflecting product that can come as powder, liquid, or cream that aims to enhance your facial structure when applied in the correct area.
This 2 in 1 cream highlighter doubles as an anti-ageing balm with a range of ‘plant oils, botanical extracts and plant derived waxes’ that aim to lock in moisture and brighten your complexion. You can purchase this highlighter here.
I personally prefer a cream over a powder or liquid formula as I find it looks the most natural and avoids the dreaded ‘sweaty’ look that can come from over applying highlighter.
3) Eyelash Curler
Eyelash curlers may look intimidating but really they’re quite simple, I use mine every day without a doubt – with or without mascara, this handy contraption makes my eyes pop.
I recently discovered mini curlers, that act to get closer to your lash line and enhance your natural lashes further! Now I wouldn’t go back!
This curler is the perfect example of the type you’d ideally want to go for, with tons of padding to avoid any catching or pain, and a smaller size to allow for better application – not to mention how cute they look! You can buy this exact eyelash curler here.
4) Brow Gel
Brow gel is one of the easiest makeup products to apply; simply begin by brushing through your brows upwards then moving them slightly outwards. This technique helps to lift the face and tame the most unruly brows! Choose between a coloured or clear gel/balm depending on how sparse your brows currently are.
If I’m going for a no makeup type of day, I’ll still apply a small amount of this on my brows just to help me look more put together.
5) Lipstick
Nothing can beat your perfect shade of lipstick, whether you’re wearing a full face of makeup or barely any – a dusky pink or deep red can elevate your look for any special occasion. Best of all, your favourite lipstick can double as a cream blush or a dewy eyeshadow, to help pull your look altogether.
When looking for a multi-use lipstick look for ingredients such as beeswax and oils, for an easy application.
I’m in love with the gentle earthy tones in this collection. You can take a closer look at these lipsticks here.
