Hi Moms,
With life slowly starting to return back to normal, and many rushing to the shops as they open, I wanted to provide you with a few tips and tricks for when you go shopping for your beauty products.
I used to find shopping around in the beauty aisles pretty intimidating. There was SO much to choose from, and most of the time I had never heard of what was on the ingredients list. This meant I normally walked out spending way more than I had initially planned, on products that probably weren’t worth the splurge!
So don’t make the same mistake I used to, here are 5 ways you can be more savvy when it comes to purchasing your beauty products!
1) Dupes
Although it is commonly thought that the most expensive makeup in the store are bound to look the best, last the longest, and get you the most compliments, this is not always the case! Many products rely on their fancy packing and brand name to drive their price to upwards of £30, but when it comes down to it, the ingredients are pretty much identical to that of a £5 lipstick!
So always think before you buy, if you’re going to treat yourself to some expensive beauty bits make sure its worthwhile, some handy questions to ask the beauty advisers at the counter are:
– Does this product have any skincare benefits?
If you’re paying over and above what you would normally do for a product then its fair to expect extra benefits! Many high-end beauty brands infuse essential oils into their product so that it doubles as a skincare product.
– Is this product expected to last longer than drugstore?
If an adviser knows their brand well then they are likely to have personal experience with the majority of the products. Try to see if they can recall a time where their makeup lasted all day due to this specific beauty item.
– Can you show me how to apply the product?
If they want the sale they’re bound to spend that extra time showing you how to apply the product you’re looking to buy; and if you’re going to spend the money on it, you might as well know how the professionals apply it for the best results!
If you altogether decide against splurging your cash, there are tons of websites online that will point you towards some of the best beauty dupes out there! Or, take a picture of the high-end product you were wanting and take it to your usual makeup store to ask if they have anything similar.
2) Multi-use
A lot of makeup products have more than one use, meaning you can save cash on buying other items!
Examples of these are:
– Bronzer, blush and highlight can all be used as eyeshadow.
– Mascara can be used as eyeliner, just dip an eyeliner brush into the product and apply! Waterproof mascara works the best.
– A lip liner or eyebrow pencil can be used as eyeliner.
– Lipstick can be used as blush. I use this trick all the time! The matching shade combination really helps to bring a look together seamlessly.
– Eyeshadow can be used to fill in your brows. I find that this often gives a more natural look and feel to my makeup.
3) Samples
Never be afraid to ask for samples! You’ll probably be surprised with how generous they are.
We all have different skin types, some of us are oily, whilst others dry, and the rest are a combination of both! This means that one beauty product is not going to work for all skin types, its just NOT possible! So try before you buy, as you don’t want to end up wasting money on a product that just doesn’t work on your skin!
4) Discount codes
Many beauty brands have promotion codes running all year! The best way to catch them is often following them on social media, the likes of Instagram and Facebook are often the most successful! Don’t forget to always swipe your loyalty card if the store you’re in provides them, makeup isn’t cheap, so points add up fast!
5) Make Your Own
Although I wouldn’t recommend making your own makeup, making your own skincare is BIG YES from me! I do this all the time; from hair treatments, to scrubs, to face masks.
