Hi Moms,
I was at the supermarket checkout when the lady placing my groceries into bags held the coconut oil I was buying and asked me what I was going to use it for…I laughed; and began to list the endless uses for coconut oil from health, to beauty, and I came to the realisation that I have never wrote about the beauty benefits of this miracle oil! So as I walked away, and she shouted ‘Thank you!”, I said “Thank you!” right back at her because now I had an exciting blog idea!
As some of you may know, I have already touched on the health benefits of coconut – you can find that blog by clicking here – not only do studies show coconut oil to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet because 62% of the oils are made up of 3 healthy fatty acids, and 91% of the fat in coconut oil is healthy saturated fat, there are also so many benefits by actually placing this oil on your hair, face, and body rather than eating it!
So next time you see a jar of coconut oil on sale, grab two, because we’re not just cooking with it!
6 Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil:
1) Dandruff
I recommend doing this in the evening just before bed to allow the treatment to really do its work! Focus mainly on massaging the oil into the scalp, not only will this help to remove any dry skin, it will also promote hair growth. Place a wrap on your hair overnight to help keep the oils warm. Continue to wash product out in the morning, and repeat once or twice a week.
If your hair is coloured this method also helps to repair any lasting damage, just apply the product throughout the hair rather than focusing on the scalp.
2) Irritation/Eczema Relief
Coconut oil is well known for its anti oxidant and PH balancing properties that soothe sore skin. This natural remedy is praised by many nurses and doctors as its a simple remedy for even the most sensitive of skin.
3) Masks
Masks, in this case, is beauty jargon for leaving the product on for an extended period of time to maximise benefits. Because coconut oil is so forgiving, there is no risk when leaving it on your skin or hair for hours, or even overnight.
4) Lip Balm
If your lips are anything like mine, it feels as though it doesn’t matter how much lip balm you use, your lips still feel sore and dry…that was the case for me until I began applying coconut oil to my lips. I simply converted a few teaspoons of the oil into a smaller jar that I had used for lip balm in the past, and now I have tons of them placed EVERYWHERE! From my handbags, to my coat pockets, to my children’s bedside tables!
Whats great about doing this is that because of the oil’s multiple uses it always comes in handy; from moisturising my cuticles, to laying down my baby hairs.
5) Stretch Marks
When I had my children stretch marks left me with SO many stretch marks, as it does or many Moms! Yet I found finding an affordable, and effective, stretch mark cream absolutely impossible. So after a few recommendations I swapped to coconut oil, what I loved about doing this was I knew that if my new born baby came into contact with it that it wouldn’t be harmful to their new skin.
6) Makeup Remover
I work a busy schedule, meaning that when I buy and apply my makeup I always looks for signs of long-lasting, such as waterproof mascara and smudge proof lipstick. This would do the job, but also meant that it took me ages to remove my makeup after a long day! This was until I began using a small amount of coconut oil on a cotton pad to swipe away stubborn makeup, now even the most long wearing products don’t stand a chance!
